Welcome! I am looking forward to an exciting 2012, after a thrilling (and exhausting!) 2011. As General Director of Synchromy, I’ve been so pleased to see that group take off. We’re now in our first subscription season, with guest artists like Conundrum, The Vientos Trio and the Midnight Winds. We’re now in the process of becoming an official non-profit organization, and I hope that we’ll be able to announce some expansion of this project before the Summer.

As for my own compositional work, upcoming performances in the next couple of months include:

Friday, March 30th – 8:00pm
Synchromy, with guest ensemble The Vientos Trio

The Russian Hall
2041 Argyle Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90068

Ryan Zwahlen (oboe) and Jeanette-Louise Yaryan (piano)

…shouting advice from the international dateline, being mistaken for god…

I’m also very pleased to report the wild success of our first collaborative concert, joining forces with The Symbiosis Chamber Orchestra and Music on Argyle to promote the music of my home city of Los Angeles. The program, presented in Hollywood and Torrance in January featured lots of premieres and a wide range of aesthetic approaches, indicative of the rich variety of influences at work in this city. Here is a recording of my part of the program, the premiere of a declarative sentence whose message is that we must try harder for viola, cello and contrabass.

I am working on several large-scale projects, including an opera that I hope to be able to officially announce in 2012. However, there is always room for more. If you have a new project you’d like to discuss, or if you’re interested in commissioning some of the new works that are on the way, please get in touch with me at jason@jasonbarabba.com. You’d be surprised how easy it is to commission a brand new work!
