Los Angeles-based composer Jason V. Barabba has been singled out for his ability to create "astounding work of the highest artistry." His composition DNR for Large Orchestra was recorded by the Kiev Philharmonic and released as part of the ERM "Masterworks of the New Era" series. Mr. Barabba’s most recent commissions have included String Trio for the Janaki String Trio, which was released on a commercial recording and Study in Orange for String Orchestra for the Orange County High School for the Arts.

Mr. Barabba has drawn on his love of literature as inspiration for many of his works. His opera ‘dentity Crisis, based on the play by Christopher Durang was acclaimed for its "dazzling orchestral fabric." He has created two works using texts by author Ursula K.Le Guin; "The Scarcity of Rhinos" on the television for concert choir, premiered in April 2005. Of his settings of her poems, Le Guin wrote, "Some composers use words as raw material. Like Schubert or Vaughan Williams, he collaborates with them…The texture of the music and the tension in it are wonderfully effective; it's spare and airy but strong."

Mr. Barabba completed The Business Cycle, a set of five songs for soprano and piano, entwined with texts written by his father Vincent Barabba, the noted author of several books on business philosophy.

After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies at Occidental College, Mr. Barabba studied music composition at the University of Chicago, The University of California at Irvine and UCLA. His composition teachers have included John Eaton, Andrew Imbrie, Christopher Dobrian, Bernard Gilmore, Richard Grayson, Ian Krouse and David Lefkowitz.
