Welcome! I am a composer working in Los Angeles. This site is intended to introduce you to some of my work, and share opportunities to hear things as they come up. Please contact me if anything sparks your interest, or if you have any questions.
In June of 2008 I visited Bratislava, Slovakia, for a recording session with Richard Stoltzman, who performed Conjecture for solo clarinet and orchestra with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductor Kirk Trevor.
This recording will be released on a disc called Mementos, on Navona Records, in August.
Pianist Kevin Loucks will be recording Really, I’m Fine with Parma Recordings later this year. The recording will be released by Navona Records soon after. Kevin has performed a number of my works, including the role of “onstage pianist” in the premiere production of my opera ‘dentity Crisis.
The score to This Friday Afternoon will appear in the premiere issue of Microfilme, a microfilm-only arts journal, later this year. The score will appear in this unusual format alongside the original poem by Alan Felsenthal.
Richard Stoltzman and Karolina Rojahn’s recording of Three Meditations for Clarinet and Piano has recently been released by MMC Recordings. The Perspetives II CD can be purchased by following the links to Amazon.com or CD Baby. Digital downloads can also be purchased at Amazon.com or iTunes. This recording was reviewed in Fanfare magazine, which called my work “deeply meditative.” You can read the entire review here.
Also, don’t forget that the Janaki String Trio’s debut CD which features my String Trio is still available. It was reviewed quite favorably in the New York Times (third review down). Last year, the Trio brought that piece to the Carmel Music Society, which was a fantastic experience for me. I don’t know how to describe in words how great it has been to work with them. They are truly world-class musicians.
The disc is now available from several retailers, including Amazon.com. The Janaki String Trio commissioned this work in 2005. You can find more information or purchase the CD at Amazon.com, CD Baby or directly from Yarlung’s site. This recording is also available on iTunes.
I am always excited to discuss new projects or commissions, old projects and performances, or anything that’s on your minds. Thanks!
