Introspection was written in 2009 after the premiere of Speculation for trombone and piano. There were things in Speculation that I decided I wanted to spend some more time with, and so I took them out of their original context, and created this piece for a small chamber ensemble. You can still see the origins of this piece in the piano part that very clearly acts as an accompaniment at times, but there is a lot in Introspection that is completely new…music that grew out of the ideas in a different way than in their original setting.
