Dreams of the Recovery Period starts with all the musicians emulating a radiant party scene and closes in a full-scale neighborhood brawl. Inspired by the dream writings of Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, Jason Barabba’s double clarinet concerto for the AdZel Duo, invites the ensemble to laugh, shout, stomp, and even break plates as they join two solo clarinets in a surreal exploration of life, fear, and joy. Both musically rich and wildly performative, it transforms the concert stage into a living drama—an experience that bridges the operatic lure and wind symphony lore.

We are seeking a university wind ensemble to host a residency to bring this work to its' premiere. With readings, and optional master classes and presentations from the composer and the AdZel Duo, the residency will allow the ensemble to help shape the final score, which will be dedicated to them.
